FRANCE – KOGEBAN
Biomass cogeneration

KOGEBAN is a biomass cogeneration plant with capacity of 16MW electrical and 42 MW thermal) located in Nesle in the department of the Somme (in the northern France). The plant produces more than 130,000 MWh of electricity and 220,000 MWh of renewable thermal energy each year.

The plant benefits from a 20-year power purchase agreement with EDF obtained through a CRE2 tender (tender launched by the French Energy Commission).

The thermal energy produced is sold to two industrial customers on the basis of long-term off-take agreements: Ajinomoto Foods Europe, a Japanese leader in the agro-alimentary industry, and Innovafeed, a French biotech company specialising in breeding insects for animal feed and operating the largest insect production plant.

KOGEBAN is operated and supplied with fuel by the company PBE (Picardie Biomasse Energie) located near the plant.

PBE has an extremely strict environmental charter and ensures the supply of a sustainable wood resource.
